Dr Petra Heldt addresses Patriarchs’ Statement on Christian Zionism

In today´s Insight conversation, Pastor Torp meets Dr Petra Heldt who addresses the confusion over the so-called Patriarchs’ statement on January 17th on Christian Zionism.

In a strong Op-Ed in Jerusalem Post on January 26th she challenged the unknown authors of the statement on who they are, why they did so at this time, and who the unnamed local parishioners were whom they were correcting.

Dr Heldt maintains that the statement lacked pastoral care, and presents information about a certain photo of US Ambassador Mike Huckabee and a Christian leader of a new association as the probable reason behind the misguided Patriarchs’ statement on Christian Zionism.

The German-born theologian is the Secretary General in Jerusalem of the Ecumenal Theological Research Fraternity in Israel which gathers some of the world´s leading theologians who together share a deep love for Israel.
