Statement issued by the World Peace Council for Human Rights
About the terrorist bombing that targeted the Church of Mar Elias in Damascus - Syria
On behalf of the President of the World Peace Council for Human Rights, Sheikh Qasim Badr, and on behalf of all ambassadors of peace scattered around the world, we strongly condemn the terrorist act targeting a church in Damascus, which resulted in the death of dozens of innocent victims.
This barbaric assault is not only touching and sanctifying the role of worship, but it is a crime against human dignity, freedom of belief, and family peace in an region originally affected by the state of violence and conflict.
The Council stresses that the house of worship should remain safe places for the soul and human conscience, and its aim constitutes a blatant violation of all International Covenants on Human Rights, and on top of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
We call on all international organizations, including the United Nations, to take urgent steps to condemn this terrorist act and to work to protect innocent civilians and to promote a culture of dialogue and religious tolerance in communities.
In conclusion, we express our total solidarity with the Syrian people in all its components, we lift our prayers for the lives of the victims and their families, and renew our commitment at the World Peace Council to continue our message of spreading peace, fighting extremism, and defending human dignity everywhere.
Your brother Qasim Badr, Chairman of the World Peace Council for Human Rights, and ambassadors of peace around the world
